1970’s S&W Blackie Collins designed; Fisherman Filet Knife, Model 6040- 1225
In 1972 the President of Smith & Wesson met with knife designed Blackie Collins to design a series of fixed blade knives. In 1973 S&W began to produce these knives in house.
This series of knives is referred to as the Survival Series consisted of 7 knives. To complete their line of knives, the factory offered the fisherman two fixed blade knives. These were called the Fisherman Fillet, designed with a 6 ½ inch blade and a general-purpose knife with a stiffer 5 inch blade simply called the Fisherman knife. These seven styles rounded out the Smith & Wesson’s complete knife line. The company had put together a group of knives with broad appeal that would offer advantages of custom-made products but at reasonable prices.
“Durable Brazilian Rosewood Handle, full tang and 6 ½” blade made for long service to fisherman. Relatively stiff blade point is ideal for flat, deep cuts. Quillion has full curve for secure handling. Serrations on the spline give firm grip for thumb. Tang extension serves as lanyard grommet or stunner.
Overall length 11 5/8 inch. Weight 5 ½ ozs.
Knife is considered used; blade and sheath appear exceptional but judge for yourself. Snap on back of sheath needs replacing. Makes a great carving or BBQ knife.
