Vintage Smith & Wesson Blackie Collins designed; Fisherman Filet Knife, Model 6040

In 1972 the President of Smith & Wesson met with knife designed Blackie Collins to design a series of fixed blade knives. In 1973 S&W began to produce these knives in house.

In total this series of knives referred to as the Survival Series consisted of 7 knives. To complete their line of knives, the factory offered the fisherman two fixed blade knives. These were called the Fisherman Fillet, designed with a 6 ½” blade and a general-purpose knife with a stiffer 5.5” blade simply called the Fisherman knife. These seven styles rounded out the Smith & Wesson’s complete knife line.

“Durable Brazilian Rosewood Handle, full tang and 6 ½” blade made for long service to fisherman. Relatively stiff blade point is ideal for flat, deep cuts. Quillion has full curve for secure handling. Serrations on the spline give firm grip for thumb. Tang extension serves as lanyard grommet or stunner. Overall length 11 5/8 inch. Weight 5 ½ oz.”

This knife is NOS with original box, tissue paper and warranty. Knife is NOS, sheath may have been used and needs belt loop snap replaced. Judge from the photos. Only 4500 of the models 6040 & 6050 were produced. #4
