1981 Smith & Wesson 6080 knife

In 1977 following the successful Smith & Wesson Blackie Collins designed series of knives, Robert Ferraro an engineer was requested to design a new series of medium-priced folding and fixed blade knives. Three years in development, in 1980 Smith & Wesson announced its new stainless-steel folding knives named the Maverick in both Clip and Drop Point.

In 1981 Smith & Wesson introduced the American Series consisting of 4 fixed blade knives. Constructed of 440 Stainless steel with a “Posi-Grip” handle of rubber directly molded to the full tang blade with a heavy brass hilt to protect the hand. They were offered in four popular styles, Large Upsweep, Small Upsweep, Light Duty and Heavy Duty.

The American Series was built in the USA for Smith & Wesson by Vermont Knives.

This knife is model 6080 (Heavy Duty)

  1. Posi-Grip Handle You've never felt a knife like this before. The new "Posi-Grip" handle gives you a comfortable, sure, slip-proof grip no matter what the weather. And there is a lanyard hole for a wrist strap to provide added security.
  2. 440 Stainless Steel Blades are 440 stainless steel, shaped for maximum strength and flat ground to the razor-sharp edge you want and need.
  3. Model 6080 is a heavy-duty hunting knife with a 4 3/4" blade.

Knife is one of those S&W 6080's that came with a genuine leather sheath instead of the Wessonhide sheath. Knife has been used but in great working condition. Why carry one that is shiny and new, carry one with character. Judge from the photos.
